How do I read the dates on my Canned Meat?

To comply with USDA regulations, we use "manufacturing dates" on our cans instead of "expiration dates." These dates tell you when the meat was produced.

Check out this picture for an example of how to read the date on your can:

Survival Fresh Canned Meats - Canning Codes

We know these codes can be tricky to read, so we've got you covered with a cheat sheet:

EXAMPLE DATE: C3251

  • C = Chicken

  • 3 = 2023 (year)

  • 251 = 251st day of the year it was made (September 8, 2023)

Also, to help you out, here are the codes for the types of meat we offer:

B = Beef

C = Chicken

J OR 3 = Ground Beef

Just a heads up, in 2011, 2021, and 2031, the year will appear as "1" according to the USDA. So, if you buy during those years, jot down the purchase year on the box.
